Testimonial from Elim Ryedale Church Christmas Experience 2019

We have had another great year hosting a Lift the Lid Christmas Experience for our local primary school children here at Elim Ryedale Church Centre.

In just over a week our church building was transformed by our awesome team of volunteers to a time over two thousand years ago. We were thrilled to welcome over 400 pupils from 13 different schools and over a 100 accompanying staff to travel back in time to discover what really happened at the very first Christmas.

This year’s Christmas Experience followed the adventures of Tom – The Shepherd’s Story.

"We never tire of seeing the wonder and excitement on children’s faces as they see the Nativity story unfold, it really is a highlight of our Church’s Christmas events."

With our trusty Time Travel Guide they met Joseph in his carpenter's workshop, arrived at Mary's home just as the angel Gabriel appeared, spoke to a very Wise Man and hurried from the hillside with Tom after witnessing a host of angels. Pupils and staff ended their amazing time travel adventure at the stable where Mary, Joseph, the Wise Man and Tom the Shepherd knelt in adoration at the new-born Jesus. As well as time travelling, we entertained the children with making Christmas crafts to take home and staff and pupils were treated to lovely cakes as well.

We’ve loved every minute of this year’s Christmas Experience and it is such a brilliant way to connect to our local primary schools. We have a waiting list now for Easter!

Here are some from comments from the staff:

A perfect afternoon - calm, peaceful, informative, thoughtful, reflective. A super way to spend an afternoon during a busy time leading towards the end of term.

"The children enjoyed following Tom around and helping him find sheep and realising about Jesus."

The time travel experience will remain with them always and will reinforce all the teaching in school. They did enjoy the activities and the drink and snack!

Beth Chaplin, Teacher, Amotherby Community Primary School

It's been absolutely great!

The time travel journey was magical with so many touches and additions to make it even more magical. It's the first time I've been and I was as amazed as the children.

Would very

highly recommend!

Christmas Experience 2019

This was our fifth Christmas Experience. They keep getting better and better.

This year we had 9 schools visit us over a two-week period which amounted to approx. 470 pupils and their staff. We also had visits from three other local church leaders and another church in Teesside who are considering doing the Christmas Experience themselves.

One of these church leaders commented "The amount of thought, creativity and sheer hard graft that has clearly gone into it is nothing short of inspirational, and has really paid off.

You have put something together that is very special indeed. You are giving Selby kids a thrilling, fun, engaging thought provoking and deeply memorable encounter with the Christmas Story."

Jon Watson, the Headmaster of Carlton-in-Snaith School commented

"the highlight was seeing the children’s faces as they were totally engaged in their time travel experience. Keep up the super effort and the generous gift of time, we would love to come again next year."

Alex Green, the RE coordinator from Selby Community Primary School said

"A massive thank you to everyone for today. I was told by staff how good it was but this can’t really be explained. Utterly brilliant!! The children were in awe of everything. This was the highlight of our year, for sure."
